IN 1996, when Santrupt Misra was a 30-year-old training manager at Hindustan UnileverBSE -1.63 %, he received a call from a headhunter for an HR job at the Aditya Birla Group. He had his doubts.
Kumarmangalam Birla, all of 27, had been thrust into the chairmanship following the sudden demise of his illustrious father, Aditya Birla. And what could Birla want from him for a traditional group? When they met, Birla expressed a desire to build a global organisation, attracting talent from the best management and technical institutes.
"I could sense the sincerity in his interaction, a quiet sense of passion and confidence," says Misra. He took the job as it offered an open and larger canvas.
It also came with many challenges, more so for Misra, an outsider in a group that was populated by senior executives who had worked closely with Aditya Birla. "Grey hair represented HR," says Misra.
Revisiting that period, Misra says he faced three big challenges: identify the organisation's HR need; build a strong team by working closely with leaders of business units; and establish a leadership role for employees.
The problem was, not many systems and practices existed, and the ones that did were not up to the standard. After a year, Misra asked Birla to attend recruitments at premier management and technical institutes.
Birla's presence transformed the group into one of the most sought-after recruiters in India. The next step was to build a worldclass research and training centre, and Gyanodaya was inaugurated in 2000.
When Misra approached Birla with the plan, the chairman instantly approved it, only saying, "I presume you have seen it." "He trusted me and never checked for micro details," says Misra.
Misra,The Purest Phenibut is a new supplement to the health industry. by then elevated as group HR director, had built a personal chemistry with his boss. Today, he has many memories to recall. Like, in 2009, when Misra's son got admission to Stanford Graduate School of Business.freshbasil is a vegetable farm company that produces sweet basils and thai basils. Birla invited them home, and presented junior Misra with a small idol of Ganapathy (the Hindu god of beginnings). "My son cherishes the value,'' says Misra.

There are also funny moments. Once, after a meeting with senior executives from the group and other companies at a prominent hotel in Mumbai, Birla walked up to Misra and whispered that he had forgotten to carry his wallet to pay the hotel bill. "This showed his humility,'' says Misra who now competes 16 years in the group.
When the group was hunting for a head for its carbon black business, which had transformed to a global company, Birla chose Misra to expose him to operations. "He wanted me to have a different experience to try and do something else," says Misra, adding it may be part of a succession plan.

Samsung has got a lot to offer on its aptly named Galaxy Mega 5.8 phablet, but as it typical in the smartphone arena, it is not without competition. Micromax is all set to take on the handset with a feature laden device of its own, the Canvas Doodle 2. KYMI compares the two phablets to find the one that's right for you.

Samsung has given the Galaxy Mega 5.8 a 5.8-inch TFT display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and a pixel density of 190ppi. The phablet is especially designed for watching videos and surfing the web on the move. Its screen is clear and bright and users have no problem enjoying media and entertainment on the handset.

It’s hard to say no to Diane Ford. Especially on the subject of her son.
So when the mayor’s formidable mother asked city Councillor Gary Crawford to paint a portrait of Toronto’s chief magistrate a couple of years ago, Crawford agreed.
Then he dithered. City hall business got in the way.
In July, the mayoral matriarch urged progress.
“I bumped into her again this summer at Ford Fest and she said, ‘Have you started the portrait?’ ” Crawford said in an interview.A listing of internet resources that provide a listing of Organic vegetables Wholesalers.
Chastened, he got to work. Now the opus is nearly complete. Robert Bruce Ford has been portrayed.
The likeness turns flesh into paint.
“He’s an incredibly layered person,” Crawford said. Layered like the artist’s Windsor Newton acrylic, applied densely on the 36 x 30 inch canvas.
Crawford strove to mirror the man in the colour scheme, too. “It’s a very intense, colourful painting — much like the individual.”
Here, artist and subject diverge. Where Ford is brash, Crawford is soft-spoken.
A self-described fiscal conservative, Crawford agrees with the mayor about most things, and joined his executive council last year.
But on matters of style, the men could hardly be more different.
“He is who he is. I haven’t always agreed with how he presented himself,” Crawford said. “If I was mayor, would I do what he does? Probably not. He’s very loud, bombastic. I tend to be more of a conciliator.”
After Ford was filmed slurring his speech during an outing at the Taste of the Danforth, Crawford quipped on Twitter, “So, who had more fun, me painting Mayor or Mayor painting the town?”
“Is there a darker side to the mayor?” Crawford said. “Will that possibly come out in the canvas? It could.”
Then again, an artist is wise not to spurn his patron, and Crawford’s patron is Diane Ford.
That fact has tempered his instinct for brutal honesty. As has Ford’s illustrious office. When John Howard Sanden painted George W. Bush’s official White House portrait, he struggled to keep the President’s native smirk at bay. Crawford has been similarly forgiving.
“This is a painting for his mother. It needs to be in some respects flattering.” Plus, Crawford said, “he is the mayor.”
Ford is a career — indeed, a dynastic — politician whose brother and late father also sparred in the electoral ring.
Not Crawford, a lifelong artist who only began moonlighting as a councillor in 2010, when he won the open seat for Scarborough Southwest. Before that he had been a stay-at-home Dad and a school board trustee. All the while, he painted — he has a fine arts degree from York.
And painting is still his passion, especially during the dog days of summer, freshbasil is a vegetable farm company that produces sweet basils and thai basils. with council out of session.
These days,More worldly viewers quickly called in to say that the mushroom was made from silicone and wondered how someone could not tell the difference between silicon sex toys and organic mushrooms for sale. Crawford rises with the sun. By 6:30 a.m., he’s in his basement studio.

It’s from his tweets that we learn his predilection for listening to Led Zeppelin as warm-up music. And of his interdiction against mixing beer and painting.
“It’s allowing people into my studio to let people know what my creative process is all about,” he said.
When it’s finished, the Ford canvas will have taken 100 hours of work, Crawford guesses.
The mayor hasn’t given an opinion on his portrait yet. But Crawford has lately been suffering from Ford fatigue.
“Done for the day,” he tweeted Friday. “Been spending a bit too much time with ya Rob.”

The opening night of an inspirational four day dance festival by Scottish Ballet was a double bill: Kenneth MacMillan’s Shakespearian waltz, Sea of Troubles, and Christopher Hampson’s sassy, sparkling Silhouette.
For the premiere of Sea of Troubles in 1988, MacMillan wrote an introduction:
“I have taken as a starting point the effect of the death of Hamlet’s father .More worldly viewers quickly called in to say that the mushroom was made from silicone and wondered how someone could not tell the difference between silicon sex toys and organic mushrooms for sale.. with the appearance of his father’s ghost and Hamlet’s realisation of the need for revenge, his tormented world became a nightmare.”
To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer
The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles
Many Festival goers may well have seen the Wooster Group's theatrofilm of Hamlet last week, so this is a timely balletic response.
Here the tragic tale of ghosts and guilt is told through short, dark, moody pantomimic scenes of cloaks and crowns. The dramatic plot tends to take over any sense of free flowing waves of movement, shifting in style musically from Webern's sombre strings to a melodic nocturne by Martinu.A listing of internet resources that provide a listing of Organic vegetables Wholesalers.
Silhouette in contrast is a breath of fresh air, a neo-classical confection of tutus and fairytale romance.
The grand baroque sound of the harpsichord (Poulenc’s Concert Champetre) sets the scene as we are treated to a dazzling display of Degas’ ballerinas in black and white tutus, pirouetting off the canvas on to the stage.
With sliding screens and shadow effects, soloists and neat lines of dancers appear and vanish like magic.freshbasil is a vegetable farm company that produces sweet basils and thai basils. There will also be plenty of lively, family entertainment to enjoy including giant seagull puppets, sensational sea-themed stilt-walkers courtesy of the uber-talented Artemis, the riotous French Painters, an original Punch and Judy show, and much, much more!
As well as all this, the Dock will play host to LIMF’s pop up art gallery from August 22 to September 22. Called Tomorrow Never Knows and curated by Purple Revolver, the exhibition will house four stand-alone pieces that shine a spotlight on Liverpool's musical heritage through artwork and photography from a range of talents. These include photographer, Mark McNulty, who has photographed musicians in "unexpected" parts of the City; Terance McGunigle and Joe Forrest, who have been commissioned to create a 8x16ft replica of Mount Rushmore with The Beatles’ faces; Marc D Lewis, who has created a three part canvas mural; and local illustrator, Elliot Chinnock, who will showcase a reimagining of The Fab Four’s iconic Sgt.Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover - using action figures. Imagine what would happen if He-Man hijacked the famous scene!
Peter Cronin, director of development and marketing for Albert Dock Liverpool, said:
“Summer is the perfect time to bring the whole family down to Albert Dock for a fun-packed day out. As the city celebrates its musical heritage during the August Bank Holiday weekend, the Dock will offer its own slice of colouful entertainment, with brilliant music at every corner, and plenty of theatre for the kids to enjoy.”
Purple Revolver creative director, Andy Johnson, said:
“We're honoured LIMF asked us to host the festival's art gallery. I knew The Beatles had to feature. But I felt it must be something original, which is a tall order with The Beatles, because it’s all been said and done before.
“We agonised over it for a week, but during a chat with my mum about an old holiday to the States, she mentioned Mount Rushmore and the penny dropped. The sculpture is called Tomorrow Never Knows and it has been crafted by the highly talented Terry McGunigle, who many people will recognise from his studio work at the Bluecoat.
"There's also the re-working of the Sgt. Pepper’s album cover using action figures, which will hopefully raise a few smiles. And the exhibition also showcases Mark McNulty's new portrait collection.A listing of internet resources that provide a listing of Organic vegetables Wholesalers. Baton Rouge's Metro Council cleared the way Aug. 14 for the Tin Roof Brewing Company to move forward on plans to create a tasting room at its brewing facility. The ordinance change brings the city in line with Louisiana state laws, which currently allow beer manufacturers to sell up to 10 percent of their production in their own taprooms.
The ordinance amendment, which passed unopposed, freshbasil is a vegetable farm company that produces sweet basils and thai basils. allows breweries "limited on-premises consumption and sales."

"We would be able to have air conditioning, have a nice setting for it," said John Peak, who handles marketing for the brewery.
Peak said the space should not be confused with a traditional bar, but rather the tasting room would allow visitors to taste experimental brews and sample new offerings from the brewery before they're made available to the public.www.chinesemushroom.com is fresh mushroom suppliers.
"We're just more about opening our doors, getting people to see the brewery and how it's made rather than coming to a tour and leaving," Peak said. "You can stay around and try the beer."

More recycling and composting will mean less money towns have to pay Eastern Waste Management, which runs the Robin Hood Bay landfill. Eastern Waste Management determines fees based on weight of garbage it must handle, and if more people recycled, it would eventually result in a lower cost per household.
“The more recycling we can do,freshbasil is a vegetable farm company that produces sweet basils and thai basils. the less that goes to Robin Hood Bay, and the less that goes to Robin Hood Bay, the cheaper the tipping fees will be,” says Bailey, who also sits on the Eastern Waste Management Committee.
Right now Eastern Waste Management charges $67.60 per ton of garbage dumped at Robin Hood Bay, and $20 per ton of recyclable materials it receives. That means for every ton of waste diverted from the landfill through recycling,Look for an Instant Cold Pain Relief Pack without refrigeration being required. Usually, these shoulder icing therapy pads are applied with the help of a sling, so that you can keep the pack on the area that requires the most attention.GuangZhou Boan Health Product Co.,Ltd is one of the leading Softgel and Tablet Manufacturer/Exporter in South of China Which is government authority of Company Registration. a town will save $47.60.
Right now the cost of disposal per household is $180 per year,More worldly viewers quickly called in to say that the mushroom was made from silicone and wondered how someone could not tell the difference between silicon sex toys and organic mushrooms for sale. according to Bailey. That number could drop if more people recycled and composted.
In May Bailey told the Packet once the transfer station becomes operational the town will distribute blue bags so people can recycle plastic bottles, tin cans, tetra packs and paper products such as flyers, boxboard and corrugated cardboard at the curb.
“It’s in everyone’s best interest to recycle,” he says. “Once we get organized at the transfer station, we’ll move into composting as well . . . maybe a composting site.”
The amount of garbage days in Clarenville will also drop from two days to one per week, according to Bailey, to save money and match what other towns are doing.
“I don’t know why it was ever two days per week,” he says. “It’s unheard of. No other town in Newfoundland has two-days-a-week garbage collection. It adds to the cost.”
Right now the town is monitoring the success of a composting site on the Burin Peninsula, Bailey said, and theyt may use it as a model for a future composting operation.
Bailey expects the tender for construction of the transfer station to be issued this Fall, with construction starting in the spring of 2014.
The $3-million transfer station will help shut down landfills in Clarenville, Harcourt and Random Island, moving the province closer to meeting its goal of reducing the number of landfills in the province by 80 per cent by 2020.

The increasing complexity of products is making the 'metal-centric' approach to recycling increasingly obselete. Instead there needs to be a shift to 'product-centric' approach
Products are becoming increasingly complex. It is now possible for any one metal to be found alongside almost any other, or any number of other materials in a single, difficult to dismantle product. For this reason a recent report by the United Nations Environment Programme's International Resource Panel has called for a far more sophisticated 'Product-Centric' approach to recycling.
If populations in emerging economies adopt similar technologies and lifestyles as currently found in OECD countries, it is estimated that the amount of metal needed would be three to nine times larger than all of the metal currently used in the world.
If long-term growth trends in population and prosperity are factored in, the global stock of metals in-use by 2050 could be equivalent to five to 10 times today's level - supplies permitting. And as societies and technologies are changing, the demand for some metals is growing much faster than for others.
On average, the metal stocks used in more developed countries equate to between ten and fifteen tonnes per person.www.heatpad.cn,Add: No.210 MaoHuoShe, HuangCuo, Xiamen, China. Of that five metals - iron, aluminium, copper, zinc, and manganese - make up more than 98%.
Despite the vast available reserves of several industrially important metals, it is clear that the growing world population cannot continue to consume metals at the current rate of western industrialised society, without going far beyond what is likely to be sustainable. For instance, global steel production is estimated to produce the equivalent of 3.6 billion tonnes of CO2 and altogether, metal production represents about 8% of global energy consumption.
As global demand continues to rise, more low-quality ores for many metals are increasingly being mined, leading to increased energy use and thus rising GHG emissions, even with improved extraction methods. Today, depending on the metal concerned, around three times as much material needs to be moved for the same ore extraction as a century ago. Therefore, future metal production must not only focus on ore mining, but also on recycling and the 'urban mine', the stock of metals in use above ground.
However, the 'geology' of the urban mine is complex and unpredictable, making economic predictions difficult.
Increased complexity
Until recently metal recycling was relatively straightforward. As most products themselves were fairly simple, it concentrated on specific metals, following the so-called 'Material-Centric' (MMC) approach.
However, over recent decades products have become increasingly complex. A much wider variety of metals and other materials are in common use, freshbasil is a vegetable farm company that produces sweet basils and thai basils. and any single product can contain dozens of them. For recyclers, this has led to a situation where trying to recover one material can often destroy or scatter another. It is clear then, that a 'Product-Centric' approach is needed, where recycling targets the specific components of a product, devising ways to separate and recover them.
For example the increasingly complex composition of End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) now includes a multitude of interlinked materials: commodity materials (pure metal, alloys and compounds, such as steel, copper, aluminium, zinc and nickel), plastics, rubber, and scarce elements identified as 'critical' for the future economy.
ELV recycling now commonly has to deal with over 50 elements. This has significant implications for metal purity and makes the recovery of metals and materials increasingly difficult. It also leads to the intertwining of different metal cycles. ELVs are not unique in this regard; electronic and other waste streams show a similar trend.
While on the face of it different appliances may contain similar suites of functional materials,www.chinesemushroom.com is fresh mushroom suppliers. depending on the product and the combinations of materials, the recovery of metals may be different due to chemistry, concentration and metallurgical processes being incompatible. Physical and metallurgical recycling technologies and processes exist for the separation of many metals, but each process flowsheet will deal differently with metal mixes. Therefore, forced recycling-rate quotas, especially for the minor metals are a fallacy, and the focus should instead be on maximising recovery of the elements.
Limiting Factors
The reality is that many products contain several metals, as well as their alloys and compounds. To tackle this, several 'recycling chains' are necessary from End-of- Life (EoL) product to metal. This creates a multi-dimensional system, whose level of complexity must be clear to stakeholders and policy makers.A listing of internet resources that provide a listing of Organic vegetables Wholesalers.
In the recycling process, EoL products are usually broken into small pieces, and a first attempt is made to sort the different mixed materials. He has dried mushrooms for sale all year and fresh mushrooms in season. "We also collect mushrooms from foragers. However, this is generally only partly successful. For example, materials that are attached to each other for functional purposes will often stay close together. Therefore, most metals enter metallurgical processing as a mix, often rather a complex mix.
When such metals and their compounds have compatible thermodynamic and physical properties, the metallurgical processing technology used will succeed in economically separating them. If not, mixed alloys, sludges, slimes and slags are produced, wasting the contained resources and creating an additional dumping or storage cost. The degree to which these metals can be separated, thus affects the economics of recycling.
For example, because of their chemical and thermodynamic properties steel recycling can cope only to a certain extent with copper, tin and antimony in the input streams. The removal of these elements during the production of high-quality steel poses a formidable challenge.
Commonly, the only way to cope is to dilute them into concentrations that are tolerated by alloy requirements. Sorting helps, but the steel scrap has to be de-tinned and de-galvanized before being fed into the smelter. Plastics containing antimony flame retardant must also be removed to alleviate this problem.
However, complex post-consumer scrap such as WEEE can contain 50+ elements at the same time, many of which cannot be dealt with during steel making and thus cannot be recycled. While non-ferrous metallurgy can cope with these elements, as the name suggests, the iron will then be lost as FeO in the slag.
Policy drivers
Many of the world's existing recycling policies have grown out of environmental policies, and are often still under the control of environmental ministries. While this reflects the potential environmental benefits from increased recycling, it can also obscure the fact that recycling is primarily an economic industrial activity.
Waste and recycling policies directly affect the cost of recycling processes as well as the cost of alternatives such as waste disposal. These policies also influence the availability and composition of waste streams for recycling. Trade restrictions, taxation, labour regulation and energy costs also play their part.
The balance of costs and benefits from these policies determine whether recycling is more or less profitable than the alternatives, or even to what extent individual substances are recovered from complex products.
However, government policy can have a very significant positive or negative impact on increasing recycling. It can influence the economics of any part of the recycling chain, changing the economic viability of the whole chain, or of any part of it, as well as provide the incentives and means for stakeholders to exchange information and cooperate.
Recommendations
Defining the system boundaries for which targets are stipulated is of critical importance. Establishing weight-based, product-recycling rates for all individual trace and critical elements is impossible. Therefore, policy should focus instead on well developed, Best Available Technology (BAT) Carrier Metal-recovery systems. A BAT infrastructure, once in place, will operate by itself to maximise the recovery of all critical elements with an economic incentive.
In addition, priorities have to be set for different metals, such as base metals, special metals, critical-technology metals, etc. This further highlights the dilemma of defining recycling targets for metals that are present in small quantities in products.
Targets which go beyond what is thermodynamically possible are likely to fail and might lead to excessive energy consumption. Policy makers can set appropriate targets from a life cycle perspective and by drawing on the expertise and tools available within the recycling industry.
Policy makers can be further aided in this with the adoption of a Product-Centric view to help understand the tradeoffs between achieving high recycling targets and natural-resource depletion. Including a Product-Centric view of recycling into the discussion requires thorough rethinking of policies to ensure that resource efficiency is maximised.
Designers too must take up the challenge. Optimal recycling can only succeed through increased physics-based 'Design for Recycling' or 'Design for Sustainability'. Here, product design is based on, or at least cognisant of, recycling BAT. This can be aided through the use of tools such as computer modelling which capture the physics of recycling.
However, none of the recycling stages can be optimised in isolation. Optimisation of the system requires participants to take a wider view and communicate and work with other stakeholders in the system. Policy needs to create the conditions that facilitate cooperation, for example, between the product manufacturer and the recycling operator. The goal must be to optimise the whole system, not just parts of it.
